Threats to Arizona Wilderness

The population of Arizona has tripled since 1970, with metropolitan areas like Phoenix sprawling out in all directions, often right up to the borders of public lands and wilderness.

Home to one of the most visited National Parks, wilderness areas play an important role in Arizona’s tourism economy, as well as protecting critical watersheds in the state’s desert ecosystems.

The wilderness area is home to the Cerbat Mountains and their surrounding pinnacles, immense tusk-like rows of maroon-colored spires, which stand majestically above open, tawny-colored valleys. This project protects two inholding properties within the wilderness area, which had 4wd access, creating a high risk of development.
