Protecting Idaho’s Wilderness

Idaho is home to the largest contiguous wilderness area in the lower 48 states: The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, along with 14 other wilderness areas. Due to its history of mining and homesteading, the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness also has over 50 private inholdings within it, many of which are developed with resorts and homesteads.

The Trust has protected 12 properties in 4 wilderness areas over the years. We have also completed two wilderness areas by removing the last remaining private inholdings: Hells Canyon Wilderness and North Fork Owyhee Wilderness.
